increase in 2018
The next increase in the minimum wage will take place on 1 January 2018. It will be formalized at the end of December 2017.
The Macron government does not comment on this, but unless special announcement by the end of the year, the amount of the minimum wage in 2018 should not be a boost: it should be increased by applying the automatic annual increase formula. The minimum wage in 2018 should be slightly higher than the minimum wage in 2017, with an increase of a few euros per month.
The last increase in the minimum wage was introduced on 1 January 2017. The new amount of the minimum wage was announced December 19, 2016, following a meeting between the government and the social partners. The minimum wage was then revalued by 0.93%.
An increase that has since been formalized by Decree No. 2016-1818 of 22 December 2016 concerning raising the minimum wage.
2017 monthly SMIC
The figures in force since 1 January 2017.
The gross monthly SMIC in 2017 (on the basis of the legal working week is 35 hours or 151.67 hours per month) is 1 480.27 € (Against 1 466.62 euros in 2016, representing an increase of 14 euros per month).
This is gross, not net (see how to move from gross to net).
The amount of net minimum wage received by the employee depends on the undertaking concerned and certain related contributions to the industry. For salaried employees at home, the amount of net hourly minimum wage is established, for example 8.15 euros an hour.
On average, we can estimate the monthly net minimum wage to € 1,153 for 2017 (1144 in 2016).

2017 annual minimum wage
Unlike the social security ceiling, there is no official amount of the annual minimum wage. Even as some devices, such as the exemption of remuneration of apprentices there are reference yet ... To know the annual minimum wage, we must multiply the monthly amount by 12. Either:
- annual minimum wage for 2017: 17,700 euros
- annual minimum wage for 2016: 17,600 euros
- annual minimum wage for 2015: 17,490 euros
- annual minimum wage for 2014: 17,345 euros
- annual minimum wage for 2013: 17,162 euros
daily minimum wage
The amount of the daily minimum wage in 2017 is 68 euros.
If you are paid the minimum wage, remember to consult the collective agreement applicable to your business. Several agreements provide indeed a conventional minimum wage for an amount greater than the minimum wage. In this case, the employer must pay you a salary at least equal to the amount specified in the agreement. Conversely, if your collective agreement provides for a lower minimum wage to minimum wage, the amount of the minimum wage that applies.
For part-time employees, the minimum wage is prorated based on the number of hours worked per week. First, multiply the number of hours worked each week by the hourly minimum wage. Then you multiply the amount obtained by 52 (weeks of the year) and then divide by 12 (months per year) to get the monthly amount of the minimum wage corresponding to the period of part-time.
Guaranteed minimum 2017
The amount of the guaranteed minimum has been slightly increased for the year 2017. It is two cents more than in 2016.
- Guaranteed minimum 2017: € 3.54 (3.52 euros in 2016).
The amount of the guaranteed minimum serves as a reference value for calculating business expenses (travel, meals ...), certain benefits in kind (eg housing) and social assistance benefits.
The SMIC (Minimum wage growth) is a minimum salary threshold at which any employee who works in France at least right exceptions (minor employee salary of an apprentice, etc.). An employer has an obligation to pay to the employee a wage at least equal to the minimum wage.
The application of the minimum wage is governed by Articles L 414-1 and L 141-1 of the Labor Code. It is applicable without distinction in France, in the departments overseas and in the territorial collectivity of St. Pierre and Miquelon.
The minimum wage has replaced the old minimum wage (guaranteed minimum wage) since 1970.
The minimum wage is traditionally increased each year on 1 January. But the rules for calculating the percentage of the minimum wage automatically increases have changed since 2014. SMIC revaluation rate is now calculated based on two criteria: inflation measured for the 20% of households with the lowest incomes of on the one hand, and the base half of the gain in purchasing power of the average wage of workers and secondly employees.
The amount of the minimum wage (like that of the guaranteed minimum) are reviewed at least once a year. An increase automatically on January 1, the government may decide to further increase the minimum wage at any time during the year.
The last revaluation took place on 1 January 2017, when the minimum wage increased by 0.93%. No ad is currently published on a possible exceptional boost to come by the end of the year 2017. The minimum wage will therefore not, for example, increased in September 2017.
The next rise in the minimum wage should therefore intervene 1 January 2018.
To verify that your salary is not less than the minimum wage, you must include in your calculation base the base salary paid to you, but also fringe benefits and bonuses linked to productivity. However, you should not include the reimbursement of expenses, wage increases corresponding to overtime, transport allowance and seniority bonuses, attendance bonuses and prizes and incentive. holiday bonuses and year-end bonuses are not included in the calculation, unless you are paid in monthly installments.
If the employee is paid less than the minimum wage and that her employer refused to regularize the situation by paying salary delays, then he has no choice but to take legal action to enforce its rights. To do this, he must seize the tribunal.
An employer who does not respect the above rules and that pays minimum wage to lower wages is liable to a fine of 1,500 euros per employee. It must also pay the salary corresponding delays and possible compensation for employees injured.
Employees who earn between one-quarter and 1.3 SMIC SMIC are in principle entitled to the premium business paid by CAF since 2016. The amount of aid varies depending on the percentage of the minimum wage received by the beneficiary. For more information, see premium business - amount and conditions.
An employee at minimum wage, single and without children can receive a bonus of activity equal to just over 130 euros per month. This amount increases depending on the recipient's family situation.
Apprentices receive a minimum wage calculated according to a percentage of the amount of the minimum wage. This minimum wage rate varying according to age and seniority of the apprentice. The apprentice wage is increased when the minimum wage increases. See as well the minimum wage for apprentices.
As apprentices, professional contract employees receive a salary at least equal to a percentage of the minimum wage, the rate of which depends on their age and skill level. Persons conducting an internship have, in turn, not entitled to the minimum wage. However, these students must qualify under certain conditions, with a minimum monthly allowance not calculated based on the minimum wage but according to the social security ceiling. Employees minors who are under 6 months of professional practice in their industry are also entitled to a minimum wage, but the amount is less than the minimum wage of other employees since the subject of an allowance which rate varies depending on the age of the minor.
The minimum minimum wage for employees under 18 years old in 2017 is set at 8.78 euros per hour for an employee aged 17 (10% reduction) and 7.81 euros for a 16-year employee or less (20% reduction). See the rules for the work of a minor.
